r This week my level III class was watching a movie that was extremly emotional and controversial. One student dealt with the contention by drawing this pic. My "planets" have handshapes on them if you can look close enough.

You might ask what the movie was....it was "The sound and Fury: 6 years later" I will not be viewing this movie again in one of my classes. The original movie is controversial...this one is more stressful than that one. It is about a young girl that is pressured into wanting a chochlear implant. For 3 years the child and her complete profoundly Deaf family refuse, then....I don't even want to discuss it.

If this is something you do want to watch and you have a desire to know and understand the Deaf community I can hook you up with both of these movies. If you are planning on watching the "6 years" later movie....be prepared! I even made a student cry in my class. She was very angry wtih me.

We talked and she is ok, and it was not my intentions to upset her, but she has an implant and made the comment: "so if a person that uses no hearing devices or speech comes up for a job at the same time as me, they would be equal with me to get the job?" My reply was.."do you realize you just put yourself above a Deaf person because you speak and have an implant?"

She said her intentions were to clarify my point. But my whole point was the reasoning for hearing people to think Deaf people need to get an implant out of society's pressures. If the society would look at Deaf people as being equal in all things, then there would not be a need for implants. Implants would then become an option for those who have some hearing and want to have extra exposure. It's not a fix all and results vary on such different levels. Even the student said that.

Teaching is as difficult as being a parent. The love, hate relationship is pretty much the same too. I completely love teaching...it was just a difficult week, I've been sick. I HATE being sick.

I hope others have a great day!

I haven't see the "6 years later" but I did watch the original in my ITP days. UHG...I didn't like it at all; I'm sure this move would upset me too.

So are you still teaching at good 'ol Wasatch High? How fun that would be.
